Our Mission

At Reformed Movement & Psychotherapy, we integrate the power of movement with the depth of therapy to help individuals cultivate both and emotional resilience. Our mission is to create a compassionate, empowering space where clients can heal, strengthen, and grow—reconnecting mind and body through counseling to achieve lasting well-being.

About Reformed Movement & Psychotherapy

Megan Heywood, LPC, NCC

Megan is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). With 10 years of experience as a therapist, Megan helps adults heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arizona State University and her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix.

Her counseling approach blends traditional talk therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and a specialized body-movement psychotherapy approach that incorporates principles of sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness-based exercise, self-regulation, and trauma-informed care. This combination enables clients to regulate their nervous systems, process emotional experiences, and build lasting mind-body resilience.

As a comprehensively trained Pilates instructor with five years of personal practice and two years of teaching group and private classes, Megan integrates mindful movement into her therapy sessions for clients who benefit from a more experiential approach to healing. She specializes in working with anxiety, depression, religious trauma, parenting and caregiver challenges, and the lingering impact of chronic stress.

Megan offers both in-person and telehealth counseling sessions in a safe, affirming space for all sexual orientations, religions, gender identities, and worldviews. Known for her warm, direct, and humor-infused style, she makes the therapeutic process approachable and deeply human.

Outside of her professional work, Megan enjoys reading (often with a Starbucks in hand), practicing Pilates, traveling—especially to Disney parks—and spending time with her husband, two children, and beloved dogs.

Traditional Psychotherapy

Traditional psychotherapy—often referred to as "talk therapy"—offers a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. This counseling process can lead to valuable insights, improved coping skills, enhanced relationships, and meaningful change. As a therapist, I tailor my approach to each individual client, utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational-emotive behavioral therapy (REBT), narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed care.

In addition to talk therapy, I also provide Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)—an evidence-based eye-movement therapy designed to help clients process and resolve distressing memories swiftly, often within just a few sessions. This type of therapy can be particularly beneficial for those dealing with trauma, anxiety, grief, and phobias, delivering lasting relief without the need to disclose every detail of your experience. For those interested, I also incorporate Pilates as a complementary practice to support overall well-being.

Somatic/Body Psychotherapy

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes the deep connection between the mind and body. Rather than focusing solely on thoughts and emotions, this form of therapy also works with the body’s physical sensations, posture, movement patterns, and nervous system responses. It’s often utilized in counseling settings to help process trauma, manage stress, and improve self-regulation by addressing how experiences are stored not just in the mind, but also in the body. Through gentle awareness practices, mindfulness-based movement, and guided techniques, clients learn to release tension, restore balance, and reconnect with their bodies in a safe, supportive environment with the help of a skilled therapist.

Pilates Private Training

Reformer Pilates offers a dynamic, full-body workout designed to build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance alignment. Utilizing spring-based resistance on the Reformer machine, each Pilates exercise is tailored to meet your individual needs—whether your goal is to increase core stability, recover from injury, or elevate athletic performance. With mindful movement and precise control, Reformer Pilates not only helps you move better and feel stronger but also supports calming and focusing the mind, much like effective therapy provided by a counselor or therapist—bringing balance to both body and mind.
