Our Mission

At Reformed Movement & Psychotherapy, we integrate the power of movement with the depth of therapy to help individuals cultivate both and emotional resilience. Our mission is to create a compassionate, empowering space where clients can heal, strengthen, and grow—reconnecting mind and body through counseling to achieve lasting well-being.

Megan Heywood, LPC, NCC

Megan is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). With 10 years of experience as a therapist, Megan helps adults heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arizona State University and her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix.

Her counseling approach blends traditional talk therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and a specialized body-movement psychotherapy approach that incorporates principles of sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness-based exercise, self-regulation, and trauma-informed care. This combination enables clients to regulate their nervous systems, process emotional experiences, and build lasting mind-body resilience.

As a comprehensively trained Pilates instructor with five years of personal practice and two years of teaching group and private classes, Megan often integrates mindful movement into her therapy sessions for clients who benefit from a more experiential approach to healing. She specializes in working with anxiety, depression, religious trauma, parenting and caregiver challenges, and the lingering impact of chronic stress.

Megan offers both in-person and telehealth counseling sessions in a safe, affirming space for all sexual orientations, religions, gender identities, and worldviews. Known for her warm, direct, and humor-infused style, she makes the therapeutic process approachable and deeply human.

Outside of her professional work, Megan enjoys reading (often with a Starbucks in hand), practicing Pilates, traveling—especially to Disney parks—and spending time with her husband, two children, and beloved dog.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process that helps individuals better understand themselves, work through emotional challenges, and create meaningful, lasting change. Through therapy, you can explore thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and life experiences in a supportive, nonjudgmental space. Psychotherapy can help with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and stress, while also supporting personal growth, resilience, and improved overall wellbeing.

In my practice, I offer several evidence-informed approaches tailored to your unique needs:

  •  Traditional Talk Therapy focuses on building insight, developing coping skills, and processing experiences through conversation and therapeutic relationship. I utilize, but am not limited to, REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Narrative Therapy, and Existential Therapy.

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a structured, brief therapy that helps reduce distress related to trauma, anxiety, and other difficult experiences by working with how memories are stored in the brain.

  • Somatic (Body-Based) Psychotherapy integrates awareness of the body and nervous system to help release stored stress and trauma, improve emotional regulation, and increase connection to self.

Together, we will choose the approach — or combination of approaches — that best supports your goals and healing process.

Movement

For individuals who are not seeking psychotherapy services, I also offer Pilates as a movement-based wellness modality. Pilates is a low-impact, strength-focused form of exercise that emphasizes core stability, posture, breathwork, flexibility, and mindful body awareness. It is designed to support balanced muscle development, injury prevention, and functional movement in daily life.

Pilates can be highly beneficial for mental health and overall wellness. The focus on breath and controlled movement can help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, improve mood, increase mind-body connection, and support emotional regulation. Many people find Pilates to be a grounding, restorative practice that complements other wellness or healthcare approaches.

I offer Reformer, Tower, and Mat Pilates, allowing sessions to be tailored to your goals, experience level, and physical needs.
